Dissapointing race for both Junior Strous and Dominick Muermans in the Atlantic Championship
The Atlantic Championship drivers Junior Strous and Dominick Muermans drove the penultimate race of the 2008 season on the 7.219 km long race track of Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah. Junior Strous had a bad start and lost three places to finish 8th. Dominick Muermans started and finished in 17th position.
The Atlantic cars started the 50 minutes race on a track where the grip had changed since the warm up session in the morning. Different rubbercompound was left on the track by cars of the preceding races. The laptimes in the first half of the race were about four seconds slower than in the qualifying sessions. In the second part of the race the laptimes improved. Due to the length of the circuit it was very difficult for Junior to regain the places he lost right after the start. He finished a dissapointing 8th and dropped to 5th in the championship. Dominick Muermans had massive understeer due to a broken front right flap and finished 17th.
Junior Strous: "I had a bad start which ruined my weekend. I reved up the engine to the limiter, dumped the clutch and the engine almost died. I dropped from 5th to 8th before the first corner. It was the worst start in my Atlantic Championship career. This circuit is long and it is difficult to overtake. Not a weekend to remember."
Dominick Muermans: "I had massive understeer because the right front flap was broken. Must have happened during the start when debris was flying over the track. I did everything I could to keep up but I had no speed. I missed too much time in the practice sessions to get to know the long circuit. This was the worst race of the season."
