Broken drive shaft was the reason for first DNF of 2008 for Markus Niemela.

Finnish Formula Atlantic driver Markus Niemela had his first DNF of the 2008 season at Trois Rivieres GP. Drive shaft of his Brooks Associates car broke 15 laps before the finish line. At that point Niemela was running in 4th position.

Markus Niemela: "I started the race from 5th and got by Dane Cameron to 4th just before the first safety car. Then I was keeping up with Daniel Morad and didn't want to take huge risks to overtake him as I was not sure if he was going to get penalized anyway. Suddenly I lost all the gears and could not continue anymore. Obviously I'm very disappointed."

Before 3 last rounds of the season, Niemela is tied in 3rd position of the championship together with James Hinchcliffe.

"Our plan for the season was to get consistent top 5 finishes without taking big risks in order to be in the position to charge for the championship in last rounds. This has been working really well and I have been in the lead or within few points from the lead since second race of the season. Of course this DNF is not good at all as there are just few races to go but we will keep pushing." Niemela said after the race

Next race of Formula Atlantic Championship will take place in New Jersey on September 13.-14.
