Conquest Racing Finishes Fourth and Eighth at Sebring in Return to Atlantic Racing

Sebring, Fla (March 20, 2009) - Conquest Racing marked their return to the Cooper Tires Presents the Atlantic Championship Powered by Mazda with a good showing by rookie drivers Harald Schlegelmilch and James Winslow. While Schlegelmilch started and finished fourth, Winslow moved up from his 13th place on the grid to finish eighth and grab the hard charger award for gaining the most positions.

With passing proving to be difficult at the 17-turn, 3.7-mile road course, Schlegelmilch was unable to make up any positions throughout the race after his attempt to get by Jonathan Summerton at the start failed. However, Schlegelmilch never stopped trying and kept pushing as much as he could. In doing so, he missed posting the fastest lap of the race by only a couple hundredths of a second. His lap of 1:55.967 ended up being the second fastest race lap.

Things were a little different for teammate Winslow who gained some ground at the start. Following a lengthy caution period, Winslow was sitting in ninth place. Nine laps later, on lap 15, the Brit had made it by Matt Lee and was gradually getting closer to the group in front of him. Unfortunately the gap was bigger than what could be accomplished in the short period of time that was left in the race and Winslow crossed the finish line in eighth.

"I'm not too happy with the result because I was hoping to improve my position but I'm really happy with the team. I enjoy working with them and everyone has done such a great job. (About his race) I had a good start and I nearly got by (Jonathan) Summerton but I was on the wrong line and I couldn't make it by. I struggled a little bit in the mid part of the race, I'm not sure why, but I kept working at it and finally near the end things got better. I nearly got the fastest lap of the race but came up short."

8th - #12 James Winslow (R), Conquest Racing Mazda-Cosworth/Swift 016.a/Cooper

"Unfortunately because it's a tough circuit to overtake on our fate was kind of decided in qualifying. However we kept on improving and I learned a lot about the car. I was going quicker and quicker as the race went by and I just kept chipping away and catching up to the cars in front. Once I got by Matt Lee the gap in front was too big for the little time we had left, I just ran out of laps but I was getting closer to them. (How did the start go) The start went well. No one really gained an advantage, it was a little tight going into the first corner but we made it through with no contact. I enjoyed driving the Atlantic car and the Conquest team did a fantastic job."

Team Owner Eric Bachelart

"I think we had a good week overall. Everything ran smoothly and we were competitive right from the start. As I said yesterday, coming back with two rookies, after being absent for one year and pretty much continuing where we left off is quite good and something to be proud of. Harald has done a good job and has shown us his competitiveness and James has just kept on improving all week long. I'm very satisfied with the week we've had."
