Walker Racing On Form in Portland
Portland, OR (June 8, 2007)- Time off was just what the doctor ordered for Walker Racing. After a seven week break and a successful test thrown into the mix, Walker Racing drivers', Swiss rookie Simona De Silvestro and Briton Ryan Lewis, were ready to go racing this weekend after completing a successful provisional qualifying session.
Portland marks the one year anniversary for Lewis, who made his Atlantic debut last year where he finished second after starting fourth. The young Briton's confidence beamed as he qualified fourth today clocking a 1:06.933.
Not only did Lewis exude confidence, but so did his teammate De Silvestro. The Swiss Miss spent most of her break in Switzerland where she cleared her head and prepared herself for the busiest part of the season. While De Silvestro was on form, her car was the most affected by the rapid changing track conditions where she qualified eighth, clocking a fast lap time of 1:07.064.
Walker Racing will be back out on track for official Champ Car Atlantic practice tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. PT. For more updates on the team www.walkerracing.com <http://www.walkerracing.com/> .
What they had to say...
Ryan Lewis: "Obviously it's good to be back in Portland, one year anniversary of me being in America. I have fond memories of this circuit, so it's really good coming into the weekend. We were really happy in the practice session and we were taking it really easy, not wanting to shed too much of what we were doing. We are ready for the fight in this race, it's not the easiest place to pass, but I was strong here last year and I feel good about the track and I'm more confident with more time in the car. I think we are ready for second qualifying tomorrow."
Simona De Silvestro: "It's a great circuit. This is my first go in on a road course in the Atlantic car so it's really good. We had a really good session this morning, but the track changed a lot between sessions and we had a little trouble with the rear, but we've straightened it out and I think we'll be fine for tomorrow."
Derrick Walker: "Ryan did a good job in qualifying today, he would have been further up if had gotten a clean lap. The car is obviously good for him and I think he has got a little more to come. Simona's car was more affected by the conditions, it's a lot warmer now than it was this morning. Not a huge difference just a couple tenths of a second will jump her right up there at the front. All in all, great start to the weekend."
