CART Toyota Atlantic Championship unveils new logo.
INDIANAPOLIS (February 5, 2003) - In keeping with Championship Auto Racing Teams' new logo and branding announced last month, CART Toyota Atlantic Championship officials today unveiled a new logo for the series, which is celebrating its 30th Anniversary this year.
The new logo prominently features the series title sponsor, Toyota, along with a front view of an abstract Atlantic car entering a turn and the new CART corporate logo in black and white on an orange field below the words, "Atlantic Championship." Some versions of the logo also incorporate the Yokohama Tire Corporation logo in deference to Yokohama's status as presenting sponsor of the series.
"Our new series logo does a wonderful job of capturing the speed and excitement of the CART Toyota Atlantic Championship," said Toyota Atlantic President Vicki O'Connor. "The logo is very modern, and fits very well with the overall look that CART has created to identify its brands. It clearly defines Toyota Atlantic as a member of the CART family, and I think it will look great on all of our cars, transporters, uniforms, stationery, and other materials."
As the series primary sponsor since 1989, Toyota was instrumental in the process of developing the new logo. "Toyota is extremely pleased with the final design that incorporates the valued input of our partners at CART and Yokohama," said Les Unger, Toyota Motor Sales USA national motorsports manager.
"We're very happy with the new logo," added Yokohama Tire Corporation Director of Marketing Communications Art Michalik. "It represents the input of all the key stakeholders in the series, and it dramatically captures the excitement and character of the series."
The 2003 CART Toyota Atlantic Championship kicks off its 12-race, 30th Anniversary season on the weekend of March 23 at Fundidora Park in Monterrey, Mexico.
The CART Toyota Atlantic Championship is one of the world's premier open-wheel development series and the top rung on the Champ Car "Ladder System." The series boasts $100,000 race purses and a one million dollar points fund. It is also noted for its long history of graduating its stars into Champ Car competition. Drivers who have graduated from Atlantic are current Champ Car competitors Jimmy Vasser, Patrick Carpentier, Alex Tagliani, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Patrick Lemarie, and Rodolfo Lavin as well as former Champ Car champions Bobby Rahal, Danny Sullivan, Michael Andretti and Jacques Villeneuve.
