KATHERINE LEGGE READY FOR MONTERREY
Katherine Legge (Guildford, Surrey) is ready to head to Monterrey, Mexico for Round 2 of Toyota Atlantic Championship, after her April 10th victory at Long Beach, where she became the first female driver to win a major open-wheel Series race in North America and the first win by a woman in major formulas around the world since Desire Wilson's win in a F1 Aurora Series race at Brands Hatch, England in 1980, the year Katherine was born.
"This will be my first time in Mexico and I'm really looking forward to it. I am confident about Round Two, I am in a good position -points wise after Long Beach. It's a long championship and it's all about staying in the points i.e. finishing races," said Legge, fresh off her maiden victory in her debut in the Series.
"I would love another win and I believe it's more than possible. We will all do our very best to finish as high up the grid as we can. I will do my very best, and what will be, will be! The team are so fantastic I have 100% belief in them, but I still have a lot to learn and experience to gain, compared to my competitors."
About Parque Fundidora's track layout she added: "I have seen the layout on paper and watched some footage from last years' Atlantic and Champ Car races. The track looks fantastic and very challenging. Monterrey is re-known for a smooth surface so we are working hard to get the car more grip. The track has many different types of corners and as it is a road course and not a street circuit, it'll be more accustomed to what I am used to."
In preparation for the Mexican race, Legge has been busy, testing, training and working with the team in Chardon, Ohio where she is currently based. "I have been trying to raise the other half of the budget that I need, in order to complete the season and I have also been training very hard the whole time, trying to focus on the Monterrey race," she said.
