Dominick Muermans drives a strong race to finish 14th
The heat was intense and the humidity high when the race of the Atlantic Championship started on the all new New Jersey Motorsports Park. Junior Strous and Dominick Muermans of Condor Motorsports Team Holland finished the race in 5th and 14th position. The race was won by Carl Skerlong (Pacific Coast Motorsports) who has been fast all weekend.
Junior started in 6th place and Dominick 17th. After a good start and keeping out of the dirt in the first corner both drivers kept their place. Dominick Muermans had a good fight with Henri Karjalainen, changing places many times, but Dominick pushed more and finished in front of him in 14th position. In the front of the field Strous's nearest competitors in the championship Hinchcliffe and Cameron hit each other and both had one of their worst result this season.
Junior Strous: " It was a very tough race because of the heat and the humidity. When I opened the visor of the helmet it felt like a blowdryer blowing hot air in your face. On this new track the off line is so dirty that you cannot overtake. There were no cautions during the race which surprised me as this track just has no margins for error. I was stuck behind Sutherland, so I put the pressure on and he went off. I was trying to catch the others but just could not and finished 1 second behind the number four. I gained precious points because the points leader Bomarito finished only 9th, so my championship chances are wide open again."
Dominick Muermans: "I had hoped on a better start, and because of the track being so narrow it is nearly impossible to overtake. So I tried to put pressure on the guys in front of me so they would make mistakes. But no mistakes were made. But I had a good fight with Henri Karjalainen which I won. My condition was good so I survived the high heat and humidity. I look forward to Miller Motorsports Park near Salt Lake City in Utah next weekend."
