Patrick takes tenth at Mid-Ohio
LEXINGTON, OH . . . Team Rahal's Argent Mortgage Company driver Danica Patrick finished tenth in Sunday's Toyota Atlantic Championship race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Patrick started 11th and fought with the handling of her #24 Toyota/Swift en route to posting her seventh top-ten result of the season.
"I never felt really comfortable in the car today. I just didn't feel like I had enough grip or that I could push the car and put it where I wanted to put it. I worked the bars every lap trying to change the handling, but for every improvement I made in the car I also lost ground somewhere else on the track. The important thing for the Agent Team is that we step back and evaluate this weekend and identify what the problems were compared to Trois-Rivieres. We have been making some steady progress of late so it is disappointing to hit the proverbial bump in the road, but that is what it is like to be a rookie in the Toyota Atlantic Championship."
Canadian Michael Valiante claimed his first win of the season when he clashed with points leader A.J. Allmendinger on the first lap and took the lead as Allmendinger crashed out. Valiante led the remaining 29 laps and held off Ryan Dalziel and Aaron Justus for the win.
Allmendinger saw his championship lead shrink to 20 points over Dalziel. The RuSport rookie sensation missed out on an opportunity to put himself in position to clinch the championship at Montreal.
Danica Patrick is still seventh in the championship but she lost ground to sixth place Joey Hand who finished fourth on Sunday. She now trails Hand by seven points (80-73) with three races remaining.
The Toyota Atlantic Championship will head north to Quebec in two weeks as the series will run at the famed Circuit Gilles Villeneuve at the Molson Indy Montreal.
