Patrick battles through difficult day at Mid-Ohio

LEXINGTON, OH . . .Team Rahal's Argent Mortgage Company driver Danica Patrick battled an ill handling car on the first day of qualifying for Sunday's Toyota Atlantic Championship race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Patrick qualified eleventh on the provisional grid for Round 9 of the 2003 season with a fast lap of 105.718 mph.

"Obviously 11th isn't where we want to be. This is a disappointing setback because we have made such good progress over the last couple of weeks with the test and the way we ran at Trois-Rivieres. As a team we have some work to do, but I am confident we will find the solutions and be stronger tomorrow."

Patrick has posted a pair of top-five results in her last three races and enters the weekend seventh in points, one point behind sixty place Joey Hand.

Series points leader A.J. Allmendinger led the field in provisional qualifying taking the pole and the championship point with a fast lap of 107.668 mph. Allmendinger's RuSport teammate Aaron Justus was second quick with a fast lap of 107.182 mph.

Sunday's race will be seen on a one-hour tape delay on SPEED starting at 12:30 pm EDT.
