LONG BEACH, CA . . ..Team Rahal's Argent Mortgage Company driver, Danica Patrick, took eleventh on the starting grid for Sunday's Argent Mortgage Toyota Atlantic Championship race at Long Beach. Patrick, posted her fast lap of 90.971 mph on her sixteenth lap. Patrick making just her second start in the Toyota Atlantic Championship is third in points entering the race.
Patrick and Team Argent made great strides in the morning practice and felt that they had dialed in a formidable set-up for qualifying. The track conditions changed dramatically forcing Argent and a number of the Atlantic competitors to make adjustments during qualifying.
"We missed a little on the set-up and that hurt us in qualifying," said Patrick. "The track changed drastically from the morning practice and we didn't account enough for the changes, especially rubber left by the Champ Cars. It is sometimes difficult to make the changes and get a feel for them because we are so limited on the track time we have in Toyota Atlantics. The ironic thing is this is a developmental series, but we get a lot less time on track than the Champ Car drivers who have been racing for years. Still it is the same for everyone so we have to make the best of it."
Patrick qualified fifth and finished third in the season opener at Monterrey Mexico. She became the first female driver in the thirty-year history of the Toyota Atlantic Championship to finish on the podium.
Sunday's Argent Mortgage Company Toyota Atlantic Grand Prix of Long Beach will air live on SPEED Sunday at 1:30 pm EDT.
