Houston, Tex.) -- Alan Sciuto's weekend at the JAGFlo Speedway at Reliant Park may have started on a low, but ended on a high note as he converted his ninth-place qualifying position into a sixth-place finish, his best of the season.

Despite a slow start to the race, courtesy of a first lap incident that led to a single-file restart, Sciuto was able to pick up positions at the start to eventually finish in his sixth position. Passing around the JAGFlo Speedway at Reliant Park was not easy to get done, and having already lost a confrontation with the concrete walls in Long Beach, Sciuto was not prepared to risk damaging his car again. As it was, Sciuto had his hands full defending from Newman-Wachs Racing driver J.R. Hildebrand. Hildebrand was stuck to Sciuto's bumper but could never find an opportunity to sneak by.

Thus, sixth-place would do very well, indeed, after a litany of mechanical issues during the first two days of competition in Houston. The 18-year-old from Orange, Calif., now sits in tenth place in points after the first three rounds of the Cooper Presents the Champ Car Atlantic Championship Powered by Mazda.

"After all the problems we had this weekend, and considering how Long Beach ended for us, I'm happy to get out of Houston in the points and with the car in one piece.

"We had our hands full with JR behind us, but luckily we didn't lose the spot to him. I wasn't going to give it up without a fight, but some of these guys out there are a bit too aggressive to make up positions, and we've already suffered because of that this season. Thankfully, J.R. didn't drive like that.

"My guys did a great job this weekend in getting the car in great shape for the race. All things considered, sixth place is great after we lost so much track time on Friday with our mechanical problems. But after three races in three weeks, I'm ready for a break!"
