The Toyota Atlantic Championship series had their first qualifying session on the new temporary street circuit in downtown Denver today, and Alex Gurney was the fastest in the session to set the first official qualifying time at 1 minute, 10.166 seconds (84.500 mph.) Gurney made a big jump from eighth in the earlier practice session with a smooth run on the slippery track surface at the new venue. His teammate at Dorricott Racing, Jon Fogarty, was second fastest. Since Gurney scored the point for winning the session, Fogarty remains only six points behind Michael Valiante in the battle for the prestigious season-long points title.

Valiante's session was spoiled by a transmission failure suffered after only 3 timed laps. His Lynx Racing team had a backup car ready for him, but series rules prohibited him from using it because he had registered a time with the first car. That time was only good for 20th position on the qualifying list.

The "Ryans", Hylton Motorsports' drivers Ryan Hunter-Reay and Ryan Dalziel, were third and fifth, respectively, in today's session, bracketing DSTP Racing's Joey Hand. Behind them was the third Dorricott car, driven by Luis Diaz. Grant Ryley, Sepp Koster Jonathan Macri, and Aaron Justus were the remiaining drivers in the top ten in today's session.
