Walker Racing Rested and Ready for Edmonton Doubleheader
Edmonton, Alberta, Canada (July 20, 2007)- Walker Racing entered the Edmonton doubleheader weekend rested and ready to race as both drivers, Ryan Lewis (#15 NCPI Solutions/InSport) and Simona De Silvestro (#5 Miauton) qualified ninth and thirteenth respectively for race one of the Rexall Grand Prix of Edmonton.
Lewis drove like a true champion. Although the 23 year-old has been sick and fighting a virus, Lewis kept his focus on the physically demanding Edmonton circuit clocking the ninth fastest time of 1:06.845 seconds (106.258 mph).
De Silvestro keeps proving that more lap time is exactly what the Swiss Miss needs. After going out on new tires, the 18-year old took too much time to earn a fast lap and found herself caught in traffic in the last minutes of the session. De Silvestro earned a time of 1:07.135 seconds (105.799 mph).
Walker Racing will hit the pavement for the second round of qualifying and then back out for race one of the doubleheader weekend at 2:30 p.m. ET. For more updates on the team please visit www.walkerracing.com.
What they had to say...
Ryan Lewis: "It seems to be the similar story. We are always quick in practice and then we don't advance quite as much as the other guys do in qualifying. It is only the first day and we still have the weekend ahead of us, with the two races. Hopefully we will come out with a better result for the second qualifying, but we'll see how we go."
Simona De Silvestro: "The track is very fast and you don't get the time to recover, because of the small straights. I think with new tires we took too much time to do a time and the car isn't where I would like for to be, which is in the top ten. I think we need to work on that and it will go well for tomorrow."
Derrick Walker: "There were no particular problems other than getting a good balance for Simona, which has been an issue. The car has been a little nervous over the bumps and the balance isn't quite good enough. Each session we go out we get a little bit better and she gets a little more familiar with the track. I think more laps here will get her better. Considering Ryan's not very well at all, he is very sick, he's doing and excellent job. The car has been very good and he has been battling this virus, which I'm sure must make it very difficult for him. If he can get it all together, he has a top three car for sure."
