Niemela leads Atlantic Championship

Markus Niemela moved into the lead of the USA's Formula Atlantic championship with a sensational drive to 2nd position from his 5th place starting position at Edmonton, Canada yesterday.

Having struggled to get the car set-up to his liking for qualifying Niemela said "I wasn't at my best in qualifying and I was probably misleading Nick my engineer as a result. After qualifying Nick made some changes and gave me a brilliant car for the race. I made a good start and gained 2 places then I just had to pressurise James Hinchcliffe until he made a mistake and then I took 2nd place. It was a good race! I have to thank Nick and the rest of the Brooks Associates Racing team and my sponsors for all their help making this possible!"

The 2nd podium of the year means Niemela is now leading the championship by one point from series veteran Hinchcliffe and leading the rookie championship by 24 points from Jonathan Summerton.

The next race in the Formula Atlantic championship takes place at Edmonton today when Markus will start from 9th position.
