MI-JACK CONQUEST RACING ATLANTIC DRIVER GRAHAM RAHAL FIFTH IN FIRST ROUND QUALIFYING; RYAN LEWIS 19TH
Edmonton, Alberta, July 21, 2006 -- Mi-Jack Conquest Racing Atlantic drivers Graham Rahal and Ryan Lewis qualified fifth and 19th respectively today in the first round of qualifying for the West Edmonton Mall Grand Prix Atlantic race. Ryan Lewis spun in turn nine half way through the session severely damaging his #30 Insport car and ended his day in 19th place on the provisional grid while his team-mate Graham Rahal got caught by a red flag late in the session. Rahal was looking to get in a good clean lap to improve on his time but the red flag that came out with less than five minutes to go put an end to the 30 minute qualifying session and he had to settle for fifth. The final round of qualifying will take place tomorrow at 1:15 p.m. eastern.
5th - Graham Rahal #18 Gehl Company
"The car was pretty good considering where we were this morning, with all the improvements we made. I know our position is the same but this morning we were struggling and now we are getting closer and getting better and the car feels better. I just needed a clean lap to go and do it. When you catch up to all those slower guys, it does nothing but hold you up but we'll do better tomorrow."
19th -- Ryan Lewis #30 Insport Sport Management
"There was a lot of oversteer on the car and when I went into turn nine I pushed a little too hard and lost it. It's too bad because I really wanted to do well and improve on my qualifying session. I feel sorry for the guys because they are going to have to work late but I'm going to try and make it up to them tomorrow."
