Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, Automobile Club of Southern California extend sponsorship pact.
LONG BEACH, Calif. (April 10, 2002) -- The Grand Prix Association of Long Beach (GPALB) and the Automobile Club of Southern California have extended the Auto Club's major associate sponsorship of the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach through the 2004 event.
As part of the agreement, the Auto Club will continue its sponsorship of the Automobile Club of Southern California Lifestyle Expo, one of the more popular spectator destinations during the 2002 Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach weekend, April 12-14.
Free to all Grand Prix spectators and participants, the Expo, located in the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center, features a wide variety of innovative products and services, as well as race car exhibits, simulators and motorsports art.
In addition, Saturday, April 13 will be designated as "Auto Club Pole Day" at the Grand Prix, with the Club presenting special awards to the crew chiefs of the top qualifiers for the CART FedEx Championship Series and Toyota Atlantic Series.
Currently, Auto Club members can take advantage of a special Grand Prix "members only" discounted ticket package that includes Friday and Saturday general admission and CART Bosch garage pass. And, the Auto Club spectator bridge will span Turns 1 and 2 of the racing circuit.
"We are delighted to have the Automobile Club of Southern California, the largest AAA affiliate in the nation, on board through the 2004 edition of the Grand Prix," said Kevin O'Brien, director of sales and marketing for the Grand Prix Association of Long Beach. "It reaffirms a growing corporate faith not only in the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, but in CART FedEx Championship Series racing, as well."
Historically, the Auto Club has been closely allied with motorsports and, recently, has actively renewed its racing heritage. In addition to its corporate involvement with the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, the Auto Club is title sponsor of a NASCAR race at California Speedway and the NHRA Finals at Pomona Raceway, and sponsors three Nitro Funny Cars on the NHRA POWERade drag racing series.
The Auto Club motorsports program continues as a dynamic forum to educate young men and women regarding the need for qualified auto technicians, as well as other automotive career opportunities. And, NHRA Funny Car drivers Gary Densham and Tony Pedregon annually speak to thousands of high school students throughout Southern California about making correct life choices and preparing themselves for life after graduation.
Nearly 70 Auto Club offices, from San Diego to Bishop, serve members of 13 Southern California counties with a variety of insurance services, travel discounts and planning, roadside assistance and financial services.
