Millroy to spearhead AAI Motorsport’s Asian Le Mans Series challenge

The 23-year-old Esher resident, who will drive a 2014-spec BMW Z4 GT3, is no stranger to the Bavarian manufacturer’s machinery having finished third in last season’s European Le Mans Series GTC class at the wheel of Ecurie Ecosse’s similar Z4 GT3. He was also crowned Formula BMW Scholarship winner during his junior single-seater career.

He is now focused on helping AAI Motorsport improve on their third place finish in last year’s GTC standings, as the Taiwanese outfit eyes a future graduation onto the international stage. And after two years spent learning the GT racing ropes in Europe, Millroy saw this new Asian adventure as an opportunity not to be missed.

“The deal came about quite quickly to be honest,” revealed Ollie. “Returning to race in Asia is something I’ve been keen to do for a while and this is just the sort of challenge that appealed to me. With my experience of the BMW Z4 GT3 I’m sure I can play a major role in helping to develop AAI Motorsport’s Asian Le Mans Series programme this year.

“The idea is to grow with them and move forward together, especially as they have ambitions to race on an international level. With the ACO offering both the GTC class winners and runners-up a guaranteed Le Mans invitation it was an opportunity too good to pass up.

“I must thank my manager Rod Vickery for his help with putting the deal together, as well as AAI Motorsport for their faith in me. Together I’m sure we can enjoy a great season.”

With the championship not due to begin until mid-July, Millroy is also exploring other potential options throughout the year.

“At the moment our plan is to contest the full Asian Le Mans Series, but we could add a couple of other events to the programme, including the GT race at Macau, which would be an amazing opportunity! Aside from that I’m still looking at a few possibilities in Europe, like contesting the 24 Hours of Spa, as well as continuing with my driver coaching commitments.”

Millroy will get his first opportunity to drive AAI’s BMW during a two-day test at the Sepang International Circuit on April 14/15 ahead of the AsLMS’ opening round at Inje Speedium in South Korea on July 20.
