ASLMS weekly interview with Keita Sawa

This week's interview is with Keita Sawa. Keita was one of Craft Racing AMR's three drivers in this month’s Round 1 of the 2013 Asian Le Mans Series - 3 Hours of Inje - in which they unfortunately had to retire due to a freak technical issue.

How did you first hear out about the Asian Le Mans Series?

Keita Sawa: I first heard that Asian Le Mans would start in 2013 at the end of last year. At that time I was already interested in Asian LMS, the reason being I dream of becoming a Le Mans driver! This series gives me the opportunity to become part of the Le Mans group, which would make me very happy.

Most of Asia is still in its infancy in terms of the development of a strong motorsports culture. From your experience how do you think Asian LMS can help develop motorsports in the region?

KS: I think Asian motorsports is currently well on the way to growing up. From my previous race experience in Japan, there is a really high level of competition there. However, for sure I think with regard to the future and the opportunity for developing the level of motorsports, Asian LMS can help this.

The invitations to the 2014 Le Mans 24 Hours Race are a great incentive for drivers to enter Asian Le Mans Series - what do you expect from the competition on the track?

KS: It is biggest motivation to become part of Asian LMS for me. In the future I certainly expect more teams, more cars and more drivers will come to join-in the series with us. This will put the series at an even higher level, which will naturally be a good situation for all of us.

How do you mentally and physically prepare for a series like this?

KS: I always make sure I keep fit, so for me the endurance races do not pose a big problem.

How do you relax away from the track?

KS: What I really love to do is drive cars, so even after long race I will go and drive to relax.

Anything else you would like to add and share with the Asian Le Mans Series community?

KS: I’m interested to check out the Facebook of Asian LMS but I’ve still not be able to, now the Korea round is finished I will hopefully have the time to join-in.

And finally, I’m really proud of becoming a part of the team and a member of Asian LMS and Craft Racing. I will do my best to be successful for the team and will do my best to achieve more success in my racing career.
