Watkins Glen, NY (July 6, 2001) - Practice and qualifying were the order of the day Friday at Watkins Glen International as the 2001 Festival of Speed & Sound got underway. The Historic Stock Car Racing Association (HSCRA) held two practices with Dale Phelon in the No. 21A 1989 Ford Thunderbird being the quickest in both sessions.

ARCA RE/MAX started off the day with a long practice session, followed by qualifying in the afternoon. To no surprise, the top three cars in practice also captured the top three positions for tomorrow's Bet on USA 150. Blaise Alexander in the No. 91 Middlesworth Potato Chip Pontiac took the pole, with Lyndon Amick in the No. 99 Ken Schrader Racing Chevrolet qualifying second.

The No. 5 Challenge Motorsports Ford of Damon Lusk qualified third in his first ARCA RE/MAX race this season. Lusk is searching for a full-time ARCA RE/MAX ride and this good qualifying run should improve his chances.

Chuck Weber broke an oil line during qualifying and dropped oil in the racing groove of the esses, delaying the qualifying session. Another car that had problems this afternoon was Tracy Leslie and will not compete in Saturday's race after having engine troubles and is without a replacement.

In ARCA RE/MAX happy hour, Alexander again had the fastest time, followed by Amick and Lusk. The series takes the green flag for tomorrow's Bet on USA 150 at 2:00 p.m. EST.

The Glen presents an unsurpassed NASCAR weekend July 6-8. The Festival of Speed & Sound promises to be a weekend packed with racing action as the ARCA RE/MAX Series takes to the historic road course in its inaugural race at The Glen on Saturday, followed by a concert by Blessid Union of Souls and a Winston Cup Pepsi 400 viewing party on the jumbotrons live from Daytona International Speedway. The NASCAR Busch Grand National Series takes center stage on Sunday as the highlight of the weekend's activities in the GNC Live Well 200, complemented by a historic stock car race in the morning.

Tickets for the 2001 season, including the Festival of Speed & Sound weekend July 6-8, at The Glen are still available. For tickets, reserved camping, and additional information, please contact the Watkins Glen ticket office at 607-535-2481 or log on to the official Watkins Glen Web site at www.theglen.com.
