While the Nextel Cup drivers were on the Monster Mile at Dover, Delaware, the ARCA RE/MAX drivers were taking on the Milwaukee Mile in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The ARCA RE/MAX 150 was the first ARCA event in over twenty years at the famed one mile speedway.
During the 1½ hour practice session, Todd and the crew worked on many adjustments to the Safe Auto Insurance Ford. In the final few practice runs, Todd was spending his lap time working on his line around the track. He had the 20th fastest practice speed. "If we can pick up a little bit in qualifying we will be okay. With this being my first time at Milwaukee, we started from scratch, like a lot of the other ARCA drivers. We made the most of our practice time and have made some adjustments for qualifying," said the driver of the #21. Those adjustments were a little more than Todd was expecting. On his first of two qualifying laps, Todd "came as close to wrecking" as he could without hitting the outside wall. On the second lap Todd posted a 25th place qualifying lap.
Since this was an impound race, the Jack Bowsher & Associates Motorsports crew could not make any changes prior to the race on Saturday. When the race began, Todd worked his way to the 17th spot. By lap 35, the #21 was lapped. One lap later the caution flag waved for rain on the speedway. On lap 44 the red flag came out for a forty five minute rain delay. When the race restarted, Todd was in the 24th position. The crew continued to give Todd good four tire pit stops, as Todd searched for the right combination. On the final restart, Todd was running with the leaders despite being down two laps. As the race wound down Todd picked up six positions. The #21 Ford finished in the 18th spot, dropping to 9th in the year long points race. "We were hoping to be able to bring back some of the magic that the #21 Ford has had here at Milwaukee, when Dad (Jack Bowsher) had eleven consecutive poles. If we had a little more luck on these cautions, especially the caution for rain. We had a top ten race car if we hadn't gotten caught on that first yellow. We had good, consistent pit stops and hope to rebound at Pocono next week," Todd said.
Frank Kimmel, Joey Miller, Chad Blount, Erik Darnell and Bobby Gerhart were the top five finishers. The next event for the ARCA RE/MAX series is the Pocono ARCA 200 at Pocono Raceway on Saturday, June 11. It will be televised live on Speed Channel at 3 pm Eastern.
