NOTES OF INTEREST: The Winn-Dixie 300 is the longest ARCA race on the schedule, and the $250,131 in posted awards for the event is a record Talladega/ARCA purse. On Friday afternoon Oct 13, ARCA will hold a press conference at 1 PM in the infield Media Center at Talladega to make some key announcements concerning the 2001 season. Veteran Mark Thompson, who last raced ARCA in ’98 at Talladega (started 2nd, finished 4th), will make his return to ARCA competition in the Winn-Dixie 300. Thompson, who owns Bob Strait’s superspeedway cars, will field a second car at Talladega with himself as the driver. In the 37 ARCA races held at Talladega Superspeedway, 16 have been won from the pole including last year’s event when veteran Strait won in Thompson’s Midway Island Ford. Talladega Superspeedway is one of two venues for the ARCA Bondo/Mar-Hyde Series that mandates the use of carburetor restrictor plates - the other being Daytona Int'l Speedway.
