Fordham Flash, Chase Mattioli, Secures 13th Place Finish at Dega
Bronx, NY (4-23-10)- Fordham's own, Chase Mattioli, pilots his #14 Maui Mobile Suites Ford to a 13th place finish in today's Talladega ARCA 250 at Talladega Superspeedway.
Mattioli, in his second career start at Talladega, started the race in the back of the field after qualifying 29th overall. However, Chase and his team were able to work out the kinks in time for the race, and once the green flag was waved it didn't take Chase long to climb his way through the field, and half way through the race he was running as high as 5th.
About 56 laps into the race, the car started overheating and Mattioli was forced to pit so his crew chief could remove some of the tape from his grill, enabiling more air to get to the radiator, and sent him back on the track to either regain his position or blow the engine. However, the additional air flow to the radiator had a negative effect on the car's ability to draft, resulting in him having to pit again to re-tape the grill. After the re-taping, Chase headed back into the field and quickly started closing in on the leaders, reeling them in to secure a 13th overall finish on a day that was sure to have be a top ten finish.
The 13th place finish is Mattioli's third top-15 finish in 15 ARCA Series Racing starts, and his first of the 2010 season.
Following today's race at Talladega, Chase heads back to the Bronx to prepare for finals and finish out his sophomore semester strong. Once finals are over, Chase will head to Toledo Speedway, to compete on Sunday, May 23 in the Menards 200 Presented by Federated Car Care.
