Gateway, New Challenge For Garrett Liberty

Madison, IL - - ARCA RE/MAX Series rookie Garrett Liberty will make the next step in his stock car racing career by competing in the Shop 'N' Save 150 from Gateway International Raceway this Friday night.

Liberty, hailing from Jonesboro, Georgia has competed in two ARCA short track events this season. In May at Toledo Speedway, Garrett qualified 32nd, before finishing a disappointing 28th in his No. 6 Gunn Construction & Development Pontiac Grand Prix for Andy Belmont Motorsports.

Nearly, two months later, the former open-wheel standout returned to ABM with plans to conquer Marne's Michigan Berlin Raceway. With guidance from Belmont, a respected ARCA car owner, and Nextel Cup Series driver he qualified a respectable 21st, before finishing a clean, career best 21st on Independence weekend.

"Berlin was a solid race for me," said the driver of car four. "I had never seen the track before, but thanks to Andy Belmont, he helped me find my groove and we were able to race solidly and attract a decent finish."

With the short tracks out of the way, Liberty has once again joined forces with Belmont's Pennsylvania based ARCA team to compete in the ARCA event near St. Louis, Illinois.

Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia Gunn Construction & Development, LLC will return as the primary sponsor of Liberty's No. 4 Ford Taurus.

Gunn Construction & Development, LLC lends commonly with their success in the commercial construction and development market in Atlanta, and the Southeast. They know the value of teamwork, having a complement of staff, and subcontractors that make them a winner. Joining the ARCA RE/MAX Series tour Garrett Liberty, and Andy Belmont Motorsports is certainly the type of driver-team duo, with which an organization wants to be associated.

"We're very excited about this weekend," stated President of Gunn Construction & Development Rett Gunn. "We're very pleased with Garrett's progress and his rapid success in the ARCA RE/MAX Series. He's a hard working guy, he's made some very aggressive steps to get into the top level very quickly."

Gunn also added "Garrett has a good level head on his shoulders, and I greatly appreciate everything that Andy Belmont, and his team have given our team, and we are looking forward to putting ourselves in victory lane soon."

As for the driver, he's isn't nervous, but eager to get back behind the wheel. "I'm looking forward to a great weekend of racing," replied the 23-year old "young gun." "I'm not the biggest fan of short tracks, but we were able to make an impression on ARCA that would allow us to compete this weekend, we look to make the best out of it."

Brandon Knupp, the 2004 ARCA RE/MAX Series Rookie-of-the-Year contender will once again for the third time this season jolt as Liberty's teammate at ABM. "I've worked with Brandon a lot this year, we also raced together at Toledo, and Berlin. He's a great guy with a lot of talent, I hope that we both are able to march our way to the front and give Andy two top-ten finishes," explained the former USAC driver.

Following Gateway, Garrett Liberty and Andy Belmont Motorsports have filed an entry for the Giant 200 at Pocono International Raceway on July 31st.

The Shop 'N' Save 150 (150 miles/120 laps) is the 13th of 22 events on the 2004 ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule. For the third week in a row, the teams will endure another one-day show. First round practice is on tap Friday morning July 16th, with qualifying in the afternoon, with the race set to take the green flag that night. The Speed Channel will broadcast the race live, starting at 9:00 PM EST.
