Veteran Schrader Does the ARCA Toledo-DuQuoin Double; Racing in 5 Events in 6 Days

TOLEDO OH (8-25-09) - For 54-year old NASCAR/ARCA veteran Ken Schrader, it's business as usual.

On track to race in at least 100 events this year - a pace he's been on for the last 30 years - the Fenton, Missouri favorite will add five more next week, including ARCA RE/MAX Series events at Toledo Speedway (Friday, September 4) and the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds mile-dirt (Monday, September 7).

"Yah, I get tired," said Schrader, "but I never get tired of it."

That's a good thing because Schrader's itinerary next week is going to keep him hopping from Wednesday through Monday.

It starts at Macon Speedway (Illinois) Wednesday night where Schrader is scheduled to race a modified on the tight, high-banked Macon dirt bullring.

"Thursday night I'm going to bond with Drager (ARCA president Ron Drager)," added Schrader.

And that's because Schrader will head from Macon to Toledo Speedway for Friday night's ARCA RE/MAX 200 presented by Federated and Belle Tire.

Schrader is a four-time winner at Toledo with victories in '97, '04, '05 and '06. However, Schrader did not fare well at the historic Toledo half-mile in the spring.

"Thought we had second, but we wound up destroyed."

From Toledo, Schrader will steer west to his own I-55 Speedway in Pevely, Missouri where he'll climb in his dirt late model for more short-track fun Saturday night. On Sunday, it's off to Eagle, Nebraska to race a dirt modified.

Schrader will wrap things up Labor Day Monday at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds where he'll race in the ARCA RE/MAX Series Southern Illinois 100.

"I can't miss DuQuoin," said Schrader. "That place is just too special for me. It's one of the first tracks my daddy took me to when I was a kid. I remember sleeping in the back of his station wagon excited as could be. Got to see all my heroes race there. The place was special then, and it still is today."

Schrader has competed in every Southern Illinois 100 at DuQuoin since 2001. In addition to winning back-to-back in 2006 and 2007, Schrader finished second in 2003, third in 2002 and 2008, fourth in 2001 and eighth in 2004.

"We ran 94 races last year, and 119 the year before. You can say we've averaged about 100 a year since the early 80s. I actually have a book at home that documents every race I've run."

The upcoming events at Toledo and DuQuoin will mark Schrader's 56th and 57th starts in the ARCA RE/MAX Series since his series debut at Daytona in 1981.

Overall, Schrader has 15 career ARCA RE/MAX Series wins on all types of tracks including short tracks, superspeedways, dirt tracks and even road courses.

ARCA RE/MAX Series practice at Toledo is scheduled from 2:00 to 3:30 PM Friday, September 4 followed by Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell at 5:00 PM. The ARCA RE/MAX 200 presented by Federated and Belle Tire is scheduled to start at 8:30 PM under the lights.

Practice for the Monday, September 7th Southern Illinois 100 at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds is scheduled from 9:00-10:00 AM local time with Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell at 11:00. The race is scheduled to get underway just after 1:00 PM.

Both events at Toledo and DuQuoin will feature live streaming video and audio of all the on-track activity at ARCAracing.com.
