UNIVERSITY OF NORTHWESTERN OHIO EXTENDS ARCA PROGRAM

Internship, Scholarship and racer contingency highlight sponsorship

TOLEDO OH (1-27-09) The University of Northwestern Ohio will continue its role as the official and exclusive educational sponsor of ARCA, while enhancing the student intern program and adding a contingency program for competitors in the ARCA RE/MAX Series in 2009.

The UNOH ARCA Race Club Program offers students at-track internship opportunities with race teams and with the sanctioning body. ARCA will use up to five students as technical officials, and as many as 40 students could serve as team crew interns during 2009 ARCA RE/MAX Series events.

"More than 40 UNOH students have applied for the ARCA Race Club Program," said UNOH President Jeff Jarvis. "It's a great program, and one that provides real-life training for kids who aspire to work in motorsports."

Several of the students have already made commitments to teams as the ARCA RE/MAX Series approaches the 2009 season opening event at Daytona International Speedway on February 7th.

"Our teams have used UNOH students for the past 5 or so years, and the feedback from ARCA RE/MAX Series team owners and crew chiefs has been nothing but positive," said ARCA Vice President of Competition Joe Wells.

New for 2009 is a contingency program for race teams, designed to encourage participation in the internship program. Team utilizing student interns on their crews who also have the UNOH decal on their cars will be eligible for a share of $300 per-race in cash contingency awards, and a $2,500 year-end bonus.

"This program has continued to work so well, we decided to turn even focus to it in '09," said Steve Farmer, Vice President of Development for UNOH. "The kids love it, the teams love it. All in all, it is just a great program-one that provides real life experience for our students."

In addition to the student intern program, UNOH is once again making available one-year scholarships to a qualified individual or individuals. A total of $10,000 in scholarship funds are available and will be distributed to one individual or split up among a group of recipients, at the University's discretion. The scholarships are presented each year at the ARCA RE/MAX Series Championship Awards Banquet in December.

To be eligible for a scholarship, applicants must be an ARCA member or immediate family member 25 years of age or younger and possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent. The Applicant must send, in writing, their name (along with the name of immediate family member who is an ARCA member if applicant is not an ARCA member), address, phone number and a brief essay of approximately one page or less describing why the applicant is deserving of consideration for the scholarship. Please forward essay to ARCA, P.O. Box 5217, Toledo, OH 43611. All applications must be received by ARCA no later than November 15, 2009.

The successful applicant will be determined and selected by the University of Northwestern Ohio Admissions Criteria and Scholarship Committee.

UNOH students and program supervisors will converge at Daytona Beach beginning in early February as ARCA kicks off its 57th season with the "Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 on Saturday, February 7th. The event will be broadcast live on SPEED at 4 p.m. Eastern.
