Passmore to Mark 50th Career ARCA RE/MAX Series Start at Salem: Christi Passmore will mark her 50th career ARCA RE/MAX Series start this weekend at the Salem Speedway in Indiana. Passmore, who has competed in the series full time since the beginning of the 2003 season, also competed in the series on a limited basis in 2002. While victory lane has eluded Passmore in her previous 49 starts in the series, solid runs have not as Passmore enters Salem this weekend off her career-best ARCA finish of third at Chicagoland Speedway last weekend.
"Our team has a lot of motivation heading into Salem," said Passmore. "Chicago was an outstanding race for our entire team, the car was great all weekend and on race day we were just exceptional. I know we have made great strides in getting closer to a race win and maybe with Salem being my 50th start that will bring a little luck at this short track."
Passmore has made four starts at the half-mile Salem Speedway in her career with her best finish recorded as a 19th place effort. As she sits 75 points from making history with her points finish in the series, Passmore is looking forward to a career-best finish at Salem Saturday evening. Short tracks have been a challenge for Passmore, but in the 2004 season she has earned two top ten finishes on smaller race tracks earning a seventh place finish at the South Boston Speedway and an eighth place finish at the Lake Erie Speedway.
"I don't know why short tracks have been such a challenge for us," said Passmore. "We have a really great short track car, it just seems as though we get caught up in bad situations on the race track. But that is all a part of short track racing and hopefully this weekend we can avoid the accidents in front of us a score a solid finish before we head to the last race of the season at Talladega."
Over the 49 events that Passmore has competed in to date she has accumulated six top five finishes and 16 top ten finishes with five top five finishes and nine top ten finishes coming in the 2004 season. Passmore finished in the eighth position in the 2003 ARCA RE/MAX Series Championship points standings along with earning the runner-up position in the Rookie of the Year competition.
Passmore currently sits sixth in championship points, only 75 points away from the fifth position. A fifth place finish in points would earn Passmore the title of highest finishing female in a national touring stock car series. The Eddie Gilstrap Classic will take the green flag at 7:15pm on Saturday, September 18, 2004.
