Craig Goess to Line up Third for Championship-Deciding Race at Rockingham Speedway

Rockingham, N.C. (Oct. 8, 2010)-- Craig Goess qualified third for the American 200 presented by Black's Tire and Auto Service. Goess sits in the second-place position going into Saturday's event, five points behind Patrick Sheltra.

Goess and the No. 81 Greenville Toyota of N.C. began the day with the lone practice session. The Eddie Sharp Racing crew worked hard to get the No. 81 faster and laid down the quick lap of 24.885 seconds (144.665 mph). He finished the practice session third and gained momentum leading into the qualifying session.

The No. 81 rolled off the qualifying grid and laid down a lap of 24.794 seconds (145.196 mph), good enough to land a starting position of third for tomorrow's race. The third-place position gives Goess an added bonus of five points in the point battle, moving him within five points of leader Sheltra.

"Today's practice and qualifying session was a lot better than yesterday's test session," explained Goess. "The guys worked really hard on the car this morning and made a lot of improvements from everything we tried yesterday. It was much more comfortable out there today, and we didn't have to make as big of changes. We kept trying to get it faster, and we knew we had a pretty good car for qualifying. We went out there and made a faster lap in qualifying than we did in our mock run. We were able to pick up a few points, and hopefully tomorrow goes well for us."
