As the ARCA Racing Series season comes to an end this weekend at Rockingham Speedway, the excitement is just getting started for the No. 81 Greenville Toyota of N.C. Eddie Sharp Racing team. Driver Craig Goess and the No. 81 team gear up to compete for the 2010 ARCA Racing Series Championship. Goess is not only looking for a championship win, he is going into the weekend looking to take the Rock by storm.
This week, team owner Eddie Sharp gathered the team together for a meeting and encouraged each member to enjoy this week. Sharp, who has been in the ARCA Racing Series as an owner for five years, pushed each team member to remember that this week was not just about winning the championship but to enjoy the journey along the way.
Testing: The No. 81 team will take part in the ARCA Racing Series open test on Thursday. The team will hit the track for the scheduled practice sessions from 9 a.m. - noon and 1 - 5 p.m.
In the Points: The point race is the headline story for the weekend at Rockingham. Only 20 points separates the top-three contenders of Patrick Sheltra, Goess and Tom Hessert. Goess trails Sheltra by a mere 10 points, and Hessert trails the leader by 20 points.
Meet Craig Goess: Goess will be a part of the Rockingham ThunderFest, the City of Rockingham's downtown party, on Thursday evening. Goess will be a part of the ARCA Racing Series autograph session beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Goess on this weekend: "The Rock is fun to get around as a driver. We'll have a better setup than when we went there before. We tried some things at the end of last year that didn't really work out for us. I still like driving the track, and I'm really looking forward to going there this weekend.
Goess on ending the season at the Rock: "Ending the season at Rockingham is something special for the entire series, There is so much history at the track, and it's a great feeling to have the fans at the Rock cheering on the end of the championship chase. We're looking to win at the track, and we are going to do everything we can in the final race of the season to get to our goal of winning the championship. That would be the ideal end of this great season."
