HEARTBREAK FOR MARKS AT POCONO; CRUNCH TIME FOR RAB RACING
CONCORD, NC (6-11-07) If there were such thing as a black cloud that followed an ARCA RE/MAX Series team around, it would be that of RAB Racing. Justin Marks, driver of the #65 Crocs Dodge took home the fifth badly wrecked race car of 2007 when he experienced engine failure at Pocono Raceway, causing him to spin and hit the turn one wall, destroying the car.
"That was a pretty hard hit," Marks said. "We lost third gear on a restart which was pretty hairy because of all the cars around us. From that point on it was just a matter of adapting to the situation and trying to keep our momentum up and get the best pace possible. I had no indication that the motor was going south on us. It ran strong down the straightaway every lap up until the point at which we lost it. It went going into turn 1 and dropped oil on the rear tires so there was nothing I could do about it."
Before Marks' day was cut short, he had led 11 of the 80 laps and was running tenth.
"The Crocs car was really good. We were a little tight in traffic but the car was fantastic out front in clean air. It is unfortunate because I truly believe that we would have been a contender for the win."
Due to the fact that the race car RAB Racing took to Pocono Raceway was the car they planned to bring to Michigan for this Friday's ARCA RE/MAX 200, the RAB Racing crew has had to immediately return to the shop to work around the clock building a new car.
"The car we are bringing to Michigan is new to us and we have never tested it. We took delivery of it right before we left for Pocono so we basically are building this car in less than 48 hours. It looks to be a very good car and with everyone at RAB Racing consistently doing such a great job putting these cars together, I have all the confidence in the world that we'll show up competitive."
The ARCA RE/MAX 200 is schedule to drop the green flag on Friday, June 15th at 5:15pm ET and will be aired LIVE on SPEED starting at 5:00pm ET.
