Matt Carter Scores Eighth Season Top Ten at Nashville

Nashville, TN (08-12-08) SunTrust Rookie of the Year contender, Matt Carter, scored his eighth season top ten finish with the No. 46 Town and Country Ford Nashville/Stine Seed Ford Fusion during the Toyota ARCA 150 Saturday afternoon at Nashville Superspeedway.

The race weekend started off with SIM Factory Pole Qualifying runs on Saturday morning where Carter made a best lap time of 30.05 seconds at 159.9 mph, which placed the No. 46 machine just outside the top ten in the 11th position on the starting grid for Saturdays' 113 lap/150 mile main event.

During the race, Carter and the No. 46 machine were quick going into the corners, good off the exits, but struggled with finding speed on the straightaways. "We changed gears after practice to a lower gear, which made us hit the rev limiter earlier," explained Carter. "It really helped the car on the corner exit. Looking back we probably should not have done that, because we were getting beat at the end of the straightaway by five to ten car lengths. I was good in the corners and bad on the straightaways."

ARCA officials waived a total of eight cautions Saturday during the Toyota ARCA 150 and Carter was exempt from all of them. "We didn't have any bad luck," stated Carter. "There were a few different times I was in a three wide, even four wide situation and didn't wreck, so that was good."

A green, white, checker, finish was responsible for lap overage in the Toyota ARCA 150. When the checkered flag flew on lap 117, Carter safely tucked the No. 46 Town and Country Ford Nashville/Stine Seed Ford Fusion inside the top ten in the ninth position. Carter seemed very satisfied with the gains the team made in the Superspeedway arena over the weekend at Nashville.

"The race for us was decent," said Carter. "The car drove probably the best it has all year on a superspeedway, so I was disappointed that we finished ninth. The No. 2 car won which extended his point lead over us and the two guys behind us in points finished ahead of us. On the other hand, we didn't tear anything up and came out with a top ten finish." After Saturdays' Toyota ARCA 150, Carter still remained second in 2008 ARCA RE/MAX Series Driver Point Standings and moved up to second place points position in contention for SunTrust Rookie of the Year.

This weekend the series will head to the Illinois State Fairgrounds for the 15th stop on the 2008 season schedule, where Carter and the other drivers will find themselves battling for their turn in victory lane on Illinois clay. The 1 mile clay oval has supplied the ARCA RE/MAX series with racing action since 1983 and will serve up Carter his first all time career taste of dirt track racing. The series' race weekend event is set to get underway Sunday, August 17, with practice slated for 9 a.m. Central, followed by SIM Factory Pole Qualifying at 11 a.m. (1 lap all positions). The green flag is set to drop for the Allan Crowe 100 at 1 p.m. Central for 100 laps/100 miles of Sunday afternoon dirt track action at Illinois State Fairgrounds. ARCA RE/MAX series LIVE Timing and Scoring can be monitored via internet by logging onto www.arcaracing.com. MavTV will host a delayed televised broadcast of the Allan Crowe 100 on August 22 at 8 p.m. Eastern followed by multiple scheduled rebroadcasts (please view MavTV broadcast schedule for a list of dates and times).
