MICHIGAN INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY "RACE FOR WILDLIFE 200"
SPEED TAKES 4th IN MICHIGAN FOR JUMP TO 2ND IN POINTS Scott Speed became the first repeat pole winner for this season's ARCA RE/MAX Series when he started his No. 2 Red Bull Toyota in P1 at Michigan International Speedway. Speed learned that fighting with a tight race car for 100 laps was no way of getting himself into Victory Lane. The Red Bull driver couldn't hide his disappointment when he came up short with a fourth-place finish.
"There was definitely something wrong today that we just couldn't fix," said Speed. "For the first five laps, we were the best car out there. On a restart with fresh tires, we could jump out and dominate. After that, we fell off and did everything we could to stay in the top 5. I know my team worked hard to try to fix the problem, but our result was still disappointing."
Speed led the first 14 laps of the race, before falling back in the top five. Despite earning the "fastest lap of the race" award, Speed struggled for the majority of the race to keep the car from climbing up the track, and fought with a tight handling car that no round of adjustments could remedy.
Despite not taking home top honors, Speed's finish jumped him to second in the ARCA RE/MAX Series points, only 95 points behind leader Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. Speed's Eddie Sharp Racing teammate, Justin Lofton, won the race at MIS to take home his first ARCA win and became the eighth different winner in just nine ARCA races.
Next ARCA Stop: Cayuga Motor Speedway on Sunday, June 29th.
