Jim Hollenbeck, EAS Ready For Michigan International Speedway Debut
Brooklyn, Michigan - - ARCA RE/MAX Series driver Jim Hollenbeck will make the next step up in his young ARCA career by tackling the two-mile oval of Michigan International Speedway for Saturday's Flagstar 200. Prior to attempting MIS, Hollenbeck has competed on short tracks on the ARCA tour.
The team will look to overcome a rough start to their ARCA season, after a mechanical failure during practice at Toledo Speedway last month, the team left with a busted up race car and no green flag. The car is fixed, and the bad taste of Toledo is behind them. Looking ahead, MIS will provide a new experience, and a new adventure, with the Superspeedway automobile ready to battle.
Joining Hollenbeck for his quest to capture the trophy on Saturday is primary sponsor EAS. They are no stranger to racing as they participated in the sponsorship of Hank Parker, Jr in the NASCAR Busch Series back in 2001.
In two races with EAS as the primary sponsor, the Myoplex logos will be plastered on Hollenbeck's No. 2 Ford Taurus. EAS Myoplex, designed for fitness enthusiasts who are serious about improving their bodies, is sold in health food and category specialty stores. This product provides high-quality protein and nutrients designed to support an active lifestyle.
"We are really looking forward to Michigan," said driver Jim Hollenbeck. "I am very honored to have the opportunity to carry the EAS name this weekend, you better believe we hope to make the best of it." He also noted "We are going to have a few representatives with us this weekend, I'm very happy that they are coming, I think they'll have a good time and see what the ARCA RE/MAX Series is all about."
EAS will also be the primary sponsor of the Kalamazoo, Michigan based operation at Chicagoland Speedway in September.
The Hollenbeck Motorsports participated in the Michigan International Speedway open test session last month with positive results. "We were competitive, but we're looking to be dominating, I think the changes we've made to the car will benefit us and we have a good possibility of coming out on top."
The 2002 Ford Taurus that Hollenbeck will pilot is a former car that came from Nextel Cup's Haas/Carter Motorsports. The horsepower will be supplied by championship engine builder Ernie Elliott. "There's no doubt that we have the equipment to compete, the car is there, the engine is there, however the driver has to be 100% on top of his game this weekend," continued the Kalamazoo, Michigan native.
In addition, Hollenbeck will receive guidance and assistance from Hixson Motorsports. The 29-year old driver will be a teammate to long time ARCA competitor Joe Cooksey.
"Joining Hixson Motorsports for the remainder of our season is a real benefit to our rookie team. They have been in this business a long time, they've competed at MIS before, and the crew is experienced, it's a win-win situation for all," explained Hollenbeck, who could race against his father, Larry who has also entered this weekend's event.
The goals for EAS Racing team this weekend are simple. "We have one practice session on Thursday, another round of practice and time trials on Friday, we look to be near the top in all of those sessions." "We're sticking by our motto, it doesn't matter where you start, it matters where you finish."
After the 100 laps/200 mile event, fans from the stands will be allowed to come to the ARCA RE/MAX Series garage and visit with the drivers and teams, a bonus for the fans who've bought tickets for the event. "I think this is great for the fans, and great for us in the ARCA garage, we get a chance to see the fans, talk with them, and tell them about our sponsors as well, I applaud the officials at MIS on the idea."
Following Michigan, the team will return to their racing roots at Berlin Raceway on Independence weekend behind the wheel of the No. 2 Spectra Contracting Ford Taurus. The team is vigorously working on finding sponsorship for that race, and others.
The Flagstar 200 is the ninth of 22 events on the 2004 ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule. First round practice is on tap Thursday afternoon, while second round practice and qualifying are on the agenda this Friday, June 18th with the race set to take the green flag Saturday, June 19th. The Speed Channel will not broadcast the race live, but will have tape-delayed same day coverage starting at 8:00pm EST.
