ARCA's Superspeedway Challenge Championship Heads to Kentucky Speedway for Round 6 Saturday, July 18
SPARTA KY (7-11-09) - On the heels of back-to-back short track shows, the ARCA RE/MAX Series is headed back to the superspeedway world for the Click It or Ticket Buckle-Up Kentucky 150 at Kentucky Speedway Saturday, July 18th.
The race marks round six of the Hoosier Racing Tire Superspeedway Challenge in 2009. The Superspeedway Challenge, a championship within a championship, combines points from each of ARCA's superspeedway events throughout the year, and crowns a superspeedway car owner champion at the year-end championship awards banquet.
On the strength of two superspeedway wins at Daytona and Kentucky with James Buescher driving, Win-Tron Racing (car owner Kevin Cywinski) leads headed to Kentucky with a 65-point advantage over car owners' Jessica Sharp (driver Justin Lofton) and Mark Gibson (driver Parker Kligerman) who are tied for second, 65 points away.
"The Speedway Challenge is very important to us," said leader Cywinski, whose team is also second in overall championship car owner points. "We're a development team, so any acknowledgement or credibility we can bring our team certainly helps sell our program. The big goal for us is the car owner championship, but if we don't get that, we still have the opportunity to be the superspeedway champions here, and that's a great tool to have going forward."
Unlike Sharp and Gibson, Win-Tron has utilized three different drivers so far this year for its superspeedway program with Buescher, Matt Merrell and Kelly Bires sharing the driving duties.
Lofton won for car owner Sharp at Talladega with Kligerman posting the win at Michigan Int'l Speedway for car owner Gibson.
Car owner/driver Frank Kimmel is fourth in superspeedway points over fifth place Cathy Venturini, whose car won at Pocono Raceway with Joey Logano driving.
In addition to the event at Kentucky Speedway, the remaining superspeedway events that will determine this year's superspeedway champion include Pocono August 1, Chicagoland Speedway August 28 and Kansas Speedway October 1.
