CONCORD, NC (8-29-06) Successful 1st Weekend with BMR for Marks Justin Marks, driver of the #65 Construct Corps Dodge, finished a satisfying 16th in Sunday's Governor's Cup 200 at The Milwaukee Mile.
Marks, who recently joined Brack Maggard Racing (BMR), used his first weekend with BMR as a time to mesh with the team and gain valuable experience in the 65 car.
"Milwaukee was a good race for me," Marks said. "My goal for this first race was to get through it smoothly and get experience working with the team to have a solid race. This team is in a building phase for the future, and with stock car and oval track racing still very new to me, I am still early in my learning curve."
"We got really loose in the middle of the race on a long green flag run and lost a lap," Crew Chief Robby Benton said. "The leaders were setting a pretty quick pace and if you were not on top of your game, you had no chance of staying on the lead lap. After catching a caution and being able to pit for tires, we made a couple adjustments and made the car better, but it just wasn't a large enough adjustment to keep up with the changing track conditions. It wasn't until the last tire run, that we really got the car where Justin (Marks) could drive it. We just lacked track position at that point and had to settle for a position just out of the top fifteen."
Although the result was a 16th place finish, it did not reflect how well the weekend went.
"We struggled a little bit on setup for qualifying and in the race, but overall, everyone did a really good job," Marks said. "I am really proud of this team's efforts. I think ultimately what we needed and wanted this weekend was to establish a good working relationship with one another and Construct Corps, and I am pretty happy with the results we got."
"This is a team that I feel in the future is going to win ARCA races, and we are going to win races together. You have to start somewhere, and I am proud of the team's effort this weekend. Hopefully from here we can start to gain some momentum for the last few races and be able to go to Daytona in February, 2007, and hit the ground running."
The next race for Marks and the BMR crew is scheduled for the SK Hand Tools 200 at Chicagoland Speedway on Saturday, September 12th at 2:00 PM ET and will air live on SPEED at 2:00 PM ET.
