MOORESVILLE, N.C. (May 16, 2000) – Jeff Fultz is scheduled to make his first career ARCA Bondo/Mar-Hyde Series start thanks to the help of his coworkers at the Jasper Engines NASCAR Winston Cup team. Fultz, a fabricator for the No. 77 Jasper Engines Team, will drive the No. 55 Jasper Engines/C&C Boilers Taurus in the Easy Care Vehicle Service Contracts 100 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway on May 20th. The car was prepared by his coworkers in a simple act of friendship.
"Mark Harrah (one of three owners of the No. 77 team) and I sat down and talked about it about three months ago," explained Fultz, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio. "We decided that we would run it if we could manage to do it without spending a dime. That’s basically what we’ve done.
"I went into the shop and asked anyone to help that could," the 31-year-old continued. "I couldn’t believe the response – with the number of hours we all work, I thought at best I may be able to con a couple of guys into helping out a couple of nights a week. To my surprise, almost everyone has helped. We don’t take anything away from our Winston Cup effort, we just start on the ARCA car when we’re finished for the day. We’ve used old parts and pieces -- we haven’t bought a single thing."
"It means a lot that I’m able to make my first ARCA start basically because of the hard work of my friends and the support of our team owners. We all have so many demands on us, and to think that people would give so much without a thing in return is a great feeling. It gives me a lot of motivation to do well."
The car, a 1999 Ford Taurus, was driven by Robert Pressley in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series. The Jasper Engines NASCAR Winston Cup Team will pit the car during the Easy Care Vehicle Service Contracts 100.
Fultz has one win, two top-fives and three top-10s in five Slim Jim All Pro Series starts this season. He is fifth in the championship standings, just 13 points behind the series leader. He has four career All Pro victories.
