Hedlesky Returns to ARCA/Remax Series Action at Talladega
HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (Sept. 28) -- Jason Hedlesky, the spotter for Nextel Cup driver Carl Edwards, is resuming his ARCA career by teaming up with fellow Michigan native Hardcore Motorsports to field the EMP Dodge Charger in the race at Talladega Superspeedway Saturday afternoon.
Hedlesky, who has been absent from the series for two seasons, has 16 ARCA races on his scorecard, but this is his first with Hardcore. Hedlesky's previous ARCA starts came behind the wheel of legendary NASCAR team owner Junie Donlavey's machines when he was Donlavey's general manager. He competed in select races from 2000-2003, missed 2004 and returns this weekend.
"Mr. Donlavey gave me my start and I will never forget that." Hedlesky said. "He is like a father figure to so many of us in the sport."
Hedlesky said he has enjoyed his change from general manager to spotter. Along with his spotting duties, Hedlesky has stayed active behind the wheel doing R&D testing for Roush Racing this season.
"I really love working with those guys," he said. "Spotting enables me to stay active in the sport and it's the closest thing to driving a race car."
The Food World 300 will be broadcast Oct. 1 at 9:30 p.m. on Speed Channel.
