GREAT CLIPS DRIVER GABI DICARLO PREPARES FOR ARCA DEBUT
MOORESVILLE, NC (February 1, 2007)--Stringer Motorsports, Inc., development driver Gabi DiCarlo is preparing for her first ARCA RE/MAX Series event of the season, which will take place next Saturday (February 10) at Daytona International Speedway. DiCarlo will drive the No. 57 machine for primary sponsor Great Clips, Inc.
"I am so excited about my first ARCA RE/MAX event in Daytona," said DiCarlo. "We had a really good test there, and I felt pretty comfortable in the car. We ended last season in the Hooters Pro Cup Series with momentum, so now I'm just planning to keep that going into the ARCA Series. This is a huge step for me in my racing career, and I wouldn't be able to do this without Stringer Motorsports and the support of Great Clips. It would be nice to get a great finish in Daytona to really kick off the season."
Great Clips, Inc., headquartered in Minneapolis, MN, has been the committed sponsor of DiCarlo for the past two seasons in the Hooters Pro Cup Series.
"We are so proud to sponsor an up-and-coming driver like Gabi," said Terri Miller, Vice President of Marketing for Great Clips, Inc. "She embodies all the values of Great Clips and we look forward to watching her in some exciting races in the ARCA RE/MAX Series this season."
Last season, DiCarlo and her Great Clips team finished the Hooters Pro Cup Northern Division in 21st position and also captured two top-10 finishes. DiCarlo earned the Miller Lite Rookie-of-the Race Award for her two top-10 finishes, being the first female to receive this award in the history or the Hooters Pro Cup Series.
Based on the official ARCA RE/MAX website (www.arcaracing.com), DiCarlo's Daytona test speeds ranked 19th out of 77 entries. The Daytona test took place December 15-17, 2006, and it was the first time DiCarlo had driven on the 2.5-mile superspeedway.
"I am very excited to see Gabi behind the wheel for her first race in the ARCA RE/MAX Series in Daytona," said Stringer. "I was extremely pleased with her Daytona test last month. The Hooters Pro Cup cars are drastically different than the ARCA cars, so you never know how a driver will adjust. I was delighted and also surprised at how quickly she picked up on things.
"We're optimistic this year, but we're also realistic and know this will be a learning year for her, too," said Stringer. "She'll be competing on tracks that she hasn't seen before, but she'll also get to compete on a couple of tracks that she's familiar with. I'm just eager to get the season started!"
Of the 18 tracks on the 2007 ARCA RE/MAX circuit, DiCarlo has previously raced at two--USA International Speedway in Lakeland, FL, as well as Salem Speedway in Salem, IN.
DiCarlo was the 2004 Star Mazda Red Line Oil Championship Rookie of the Year and finished fifth in the point standings that season. The 2007 season will mark the 10th year of competitive racing for DiCarlo, competing in the PKRA Series 80cc Jr. Shifter and 125cc Shifter, SKUSA World Finals, SKUSA Pro Moto Tour, USAC Formula Russell, Formula Barber Dodge Western Series, SCCA, Star Mazda Red Oil Series, Hooters Pro Cup Series and now the ARCA/REMAX Series.
The 21-year-old driver from Phoenix, AZ, was the first female in the history of the PKRA Series to win a championship, which she captured in 2002. In 2003, DiCarlo won two SCCA Pro events in Formula Mazda.
In addition to the support of DiCarlo in the ARCA/REMAX Series, Great Clips, Inc. is the sponsor of the No. 38 Toyota driven by Jason Leffler in the NASCAR Busch Series for Braun Racing.
