Kimmel Looking to Defend Fall Pocono Win
Frank Kimmel has visited victory lane once this season and twice at Pocono Raceway, but after visiting the 2.5-mile triangular superspeedway more than any other ARCA RE/MAX Series driver with 26 career starts, Kimmel hopes to claim another victory this weekend at Pocono. Kimmel has an impressive track record at Pocono earning two wins, two poles and 14 top-five finishes. Following his most recent win at the raceway last July, Kimmel plans to return to Pocono with 'Martin' and work on taking over the ARCA RE/MAX Series point lead.
"We are taking a really good race car to Pocono this weekend," said Kimmel. "Martin is a Nextel Cup Series car that we purchased and we feel like we have the right set up for Pocono even though it is a pretty tricky place to get around. We were able to lead 63 laps of the event here last July and the way this entire Pork Racing team has been working together this season, I think we will be just as good on Saturday."
Kimmel earned his first Pork Pole award in a year and a half two weeks ago at the Toledo Speedway and led almost all of the laps before finishing third after a late-race pit stop. But Kimmel was able to make great strides in the ARCA RE/MAX Series Championship point standings jumping from fifth to second, now only 45 points behind point leader, Bobby Gerhart.
"We are definitely watching the points every week," said Kimmel. "But we are more focused on winning poles, leading laps and winning races. If we can do all of those things consistently, the points will come. The team is working hard at the race shop to get the cars ready with such a long stretch of races coming up. This is the part of the season where we really start to have a lot of fun."
The Pocono 200 will be televised live on Speed with coverage beginning at 1:00pm ET on Saturday, June 10.
