LUCK NOT ON KIMMEL'S SIDE IN MICHIGAN
Brooklyn, Michigan (June 16, 2006) -- Frank Kimmel and the Tri-State Motorsports team cannot seem to get luck on their side when it comes to the last couple of speedway races in the ARCA RE/MAX Series. Kimmel qualified for the Hantz Group 200 at the Michigan International Speedway in the sixth position looking to defend his win from a year ago.
While the Pork Racing team struggled with the handling on the No. 46 Pork Ford Fusion early in the race, they were able to hold on to a top-ten position throughout much of the event. But on lap 87 the left-front tire blew causing Kimmel to make contact with the outside wall before bringing his Pork Ford to the attention of his pit crew for left side tires under green flag conditions. When the checkered flag flew on the event, Kimmel was scored in the 20th position.
"This has just been a frustrating weekend for us since the practice session," said Kimmel. "We struggled with the handling in this car from the time the race took the green flag, the Pork Ford was just tight and it seemed like no matter what we did, from massive track bar adjustments to air pressure, we could not make it any better to drive. We were going to settle for a top-ten finish because it would be a decent point's day for the team, but then that left-front tire blew and we had to pit under green. I just hate it for our entire Pork Racing team because they worked so hard to get this car ready after the problems we had in Pocono a week ago. But we have a week off before we head to Kansas Speedway so hopefully we can head back to the race shop and leave the monkey there that has been on our back much of this season."
Following the Hantz Group 200, Kimmel remains second in ARCA RE/MAX Series Championship points and is now 120 points behind leader, Bobby Gerhart. The next event for the ARCA RE/MAX Series will be Saturday, July 1 at the Kansas Speedway. The next event for Frank Kimmel will be Thursday, June 29 at the road course at Daytona International Speedway where he will compete in Race Three of the International Race of Champions (IROC).
