Disappointment at DuQuoin
DuQuoin, IL 9/1/03 For Jason Jarrett the "long" weekend resulted in a disappointing 18th place at the ARCA Southern Illinois 500 presented by Federated Car Care held at the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds yesterday.
An early race spinout by Mark Gibson right in front of Jarrett left him with some front end damage that eventually resulted in the engine giving out with just nine laps to go.
"When Mark spun, we had no where to go," said Jarrett. "We had some damage to the front left nose that apparently resulted in some sort of slow oil leak that caused us to blow the motor. When we opened the hood up, there was oil everywhere."
After torrential rains all day Sunday, track conditions were less than desirable and worsened as the track dried out.
"After all that rain, the track was so sloppy, you had to run with your left front all the way down on the inside groove," remarked Jarrett. "If you got up out of it at all, you weren't necessarily going to wreck, but you didn't have much control over the car at that point. Then when the track dried out, it left deep ruts in the inside lane."
"It was a challenge, that's for sure." I felt like I was just getting the hang of it, when the motor gave out," added Jarrett.
The last leg of what some refer to as the Triple Crown of ARCA gets underway this Saturday, September 6th, at Chicagoland Speedway with the running of the ReadyHosting.com 200. After two top five finishes, including one 2nd place, Jarrett is looking forward to getting back to Chicagoland and, hopefully, picking up the win at the speedway event of this three-race series.
"Although this type of track is not necessarily my favorite, we have been improving. With the new car, we just keep getting better and better on these intermediate tracks," said Jarrett. "We've had some good runs here, so I think with the advances this team has made, we should be right there at the end of the race."
Jason Jarrett is the driver for the #67 ML Motorsports Chevrolet Monte Carlo sponsored by Bennigan's Restaurants, Gladiator GarageWorks, and Damon RV. Jason is also a member of the Coca-Cola Racing Family.
