MOVING ON UP FOR LUSK
MOORESVILLE, NC (7-10-06) - Damon Lusk, driver of the #65 Construct Corps Dodge, brought home his second top five of the season after an eventful night under the lights at Kentucky Speedway.
"This was the best car I have been in all year," Lusk said. "We didn't win, but I feel like we did. This team really put together an impressive car."
Lusk who lead a lap, and never fell out of the top ten, caught a break when, on lap 64, a stalled car on the backstretch caused the caution to come out. Lusk, who was on his way in to pit, stayed out, catching some of the lead cars a lap down.
"Wow, we got lucky," Lusk said. "When we didn't come in with the leaders, and my fuel pressure gauge was fluctuating, I thought for sure that we were going to run out of gas. So when the caution came out I was so relieved."
Lusk continued to move up to third, when a lap 87 restart juggled up the leaders, causing Lusk to fall to fifth and remain there the rest of the race.
"Overall we had a top five car, so to be able to walk away with a top five, I couldn't be happier. We are at the point that this team is going to shine. We have all finally learned each other's strengths and weaknesses, and I have no doubt that from here on out, we are the team to beat."
"We have gained a great deal of momentum over the past couple weeks and though our Kansas finish didn't show it, we've been a solid top five contender the last couple races," Crew Chief Robby Benton said. "I'm starting to figure out what Damon needs to go fast, and he's figuring out what kind of feedback I need to give him for what he needs."
"We're starting to gel more as a team and really starting to have luck go our way. We've had a lot of help from Bob Schacht and our program is stronger for it. I'm really looking forward to the several intermediate tracks we have coming up and hopefully we will continue to have strong finishes to solidify our position in the points."
"Our goal is a top three finish in the ARCA RE/MAX standings at season's end. Frank (Kimmel) and Bobby (Gerhart) have set a pretty high benchmark for consistency and while catching them will be a tall order, third is a realistic goal."
The BMR team is back in the shop this week preparing for the one day show at Berlin Raceway. The Sara Lee/GSF Marketplace 200 is scheduled to begin Saturday, July 15th at 8:30 PM.
