Van Alst preparing for 2003 racing season.
Anderson, Ind. (January 4, 2002) - Greg Van Alst has spent the off-season staying busy, yet focused to compete in a limited 2003 ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule. Van Alst competed in three ARCA RE/MAX Series events in 2002, making his debut at Kentucky Speedway. The race held under the lights and Greg would drive the 01 Robert Locke Motorsports Chevrolet to a 32nd place finishing position, after engine problems.
Van Alst of Anderson, Ind., and the entire team would keep their heads high and move to their second ARCA race staged at Chicagoland Speedway, for the ReadyHosting.com 200. After qualifying 37th, Greg maneuvered his way through race traffic, avoiding the crash-filled race and took the checkered flag 15th, a career best in his young ARCA career.
The following week they competed at Salem Speedway, one of the few short tracks on the schedule. After qualifying 23rd and staying out of trouble for most of the race, misfortunate would bite Van Alst as he was collected in accident which would regulate him to a 30th place finishing position.
"2002 was a big learning experience for me in the ARCA RE/MAX Series" said Van Alst. "I can't thank the entire Locke Motorsports team enough for giving me the opportunity to drive their car. It means a lot to me."
Greg Van Alst, who also competes in the Sunoco Super Series, will return as the driver of the Robert Locke Motorsports Chevrolet in 2003. While the team has not nailed down a complete schedule, you can expect for them to pick up the pieces and be at the racetrack more often in 2003.
"I am very grateful, that I am returning as the driver in 2003, we all seemed to really click well, and I am excited about what the future holds for me. I am just proud to be racing with this team in the ARCA RE/MAX Series."
"I can't thank Robert Locke Concrete, Shelby Materials, Alternative Trenching, Richard A. Stanley, D. P. M., and Thermtech Systems enough for putting their names on the car enabling me to go racing last year. Without them, it wouldn't have been possible. I am hoping that they will return in 2003."
Along with competing in the ARCA RE/MAX Series in 2003, Greg will also be racing a limited Sunoco Super Series schedule.
"I am excited about returning to this series, when I am not running ARCA, I will be running Sunoco." Stated Van Alst. "We bought another engine and a newer Port City chassis, so I think we are going to be extremely competitive next year."
