Montgomery Hopes to Make"13" Lucky at Kansas

Kansas City, KS. (May 31, 2002)-- ARCA RE/MAX Series driver Chase Montgomery is going to make a hard charge for the front from the" unlucky" 13th position at Saturday's BPU 200.

Montgomery's motor blew in his #27 Montgomery Motorsports Chevrolet Monte Carlo late in the morning practice.

Montgomery said there isn't much room for complaint considering the events of the day. After drawing to go out first in qualifying, the #27 crew had less than two hours to replace the damaged motor with the backup.

With the crew working at a feverish pace, and with the grant from ARCA to qualify last, the #27 car made it out to the qualifying line on time.

"The crew really worked hard to get the car back out for qualifying," Montgomery said. "I really appreciate all of their hard work. I know it's not easy to change a motor in 90 minutes 95 degree weather."

Due to the time constraint, Montgomery was unable to practice with the new motor before qualifying. He is anxious to get in some time this evening with the new motor.

"Happy Hour is coming up, so we are going to go out and shake down the car," Montgomery said."This motor isn't as good as the one we had this morning, but I am still confident we can run up front."
