CHASE AUSTIN FAST IN DAYTONA DEBUT
--Rusty Wallace Racing Driver Sixth Fastest of 79 Drivers in ARCA Testing at Daytona--
DAYTONA BEACH, FL (December 17, 2007)--In recent history, whenever Rusty Wallace Racing has entered an ARCA RE/MAX Series event, it has truly been a force with which to be reckoned. First, Steve Wallace and David Stremme scorched the ARCA competition in 2006. Now, it's Chase Austin's turn to take on the ARCA field.
The 18 year-old Kansan wasted no time in getting started on that task during this weekend's ARCA test in preparation for the 45th annual Daytona ARCA 200, to be held February 9, 2008 at the Daytona International Speedway. In his first test on Daytona's hallowed high-banks, Austin and his Atreus Homes and Communities Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS unofficially posted the sixth-fastest time of the 79 drivers participating in the three-day test, with a lap of 49.417 seconds (182.124 MPH).
Noted Austin, "My guys gave me a solid car to work with this weekend, but we're not quitting; we're going back to the shop and we're going to do our best to make it even better. It was an incredible feeling to get to run at Daytona and I can't wait to be able to race there during Speedweeks. My teammate, Steve Wallace, had an incredible season in ARCA in 2006 and I hope that I'll be able to do just as well in my five races this year."
Should his team's ARCA RE/MAX Series track record mean anything, Austin may very well see ARCA success in his future. In ten overall starts, Rusty Wallace Racing boasts four wins and four poles, as well as the 2006 ARCA Pole Award Championship. Among those victories were three by Steve Wallace, as well as a dominating win by David Stremme, in which he lapped the field and led 99 of 100 laps en route to a Spring 2006 win at Michigan.
In addition to a five-race ARCA campaign in 2008, Chase Austin will drive Rusty Wallace Racing's No. 64 Chevrolet in 15 of the 35 2008 NASCAR Nationwide Series events. David Stremme and Max Papis will complete the No. 64's 2008 driver lineup. The No. 64 squad will compete full-time for the Nationwide Series owners' championship in 2008, while Steve Wallace will wheel the team's No. 66 entry full-time as well, in a quest for both the 2008 Nationwide Series drivers' and owners' crowns.
