Howard improves at Lowe's; finishes 13th in rain-delayed ADG 100
Concord, NC (May 24, 2003) -- Shelby Howard, driver of the #64 Mack Trucks-Beck Dodge, finished 13th in the delayed running of the ADG 100 presented by EasyCare at Lowe's Motor Speedway. It was a career best finish for Howard at the Concord, NC track.
Two straight days of heavy, steady rain forced the postponement of the ADG 100. Instead of late Thursday night, the ARCA RE/MAX Series competitors finally took the green flag late Friday morning.
Since qualifying was rained out on Thursday, Howard started from the points-designated 6th position. Howard had been as high as 4th when he pulled down on to pit road for his only stop of the day. Only around half of the field had elected to come in under caution, so Howard had to restart in 17th.
Howard had powered his way back up to 8th when rain again threatened, bringing out another caution. When the green flag came back out, Howard's Dodge unfortunately began to gradually drop back. With only a handful of laps remaining, Howard hung on for 13th.
"The Mack Trucks-Beck Dodge was pretty good all day," said Howard. "At the end, it gave up a little. It definitely wasn't the finish we were looking for, but we can't think about that now. We have to get ready for Berlin."
Howard and the Mack Trucks-Beck Dodge Racing team have to quickly prepare for the Pork the Other White Meat 200 at Berlin Raceway. The action-packed, one-day show at the Marne, Michigan 0.5-mile track will take the green at 9:15 pm tonight.
