KNUPP SOLID AT KENTUCKY
Following a 2-hour practice session on Friday and a complete wash out on Saturday, the ARCA RE/MAX Series took to the Kentucky Speedway track on Sunday for Pork Pole Qualifying and the Harley Davidson of Cincinnati 150.
Brandon Knupp, first out on the qualifying grid, put his KB Machine/Mark Knupp Muffler & Tire Ford in the field in the 19th starting spot. The qualifying session which began around 9:45am on Sunday left a lot on the table for several drivers as the rains the day before had washed the rubber from the racing surface and getting the tires to grip the track was looking to be hard to come by, as several cars found the wall at both ends of the speedway.
Once the green flag waved for the start of the 150-mile event, Knupp consumed little time wheeling his #96 to the front runners, and flitted among the top 10 most of the day. A primary goal of any young racer is to lead laps among some of the hottest drivers on the circuit and Brandon Knupp led his first career ARCA RE/MAX Series laps here at Kentucky Speedway, with the likes of Chad Blount and Frank Kimmel. Thus, proving his goals are set and becoming a reality on a weekly basis. Knupp drove his Ford Taurus to a sold 10th place finish.
"If there's one thing I've learned," said Knupp. " Everything comes in steps, you gotta finish the race, then you gotta lead the race, we've done both of those, now the next step is winning, and I think that's on the horizon for us. My MKR team has really worked hard, we didn't even get our motor for this race until Friday morning so we really had to stand on the gas to get it in the car and get here in time for practice".
Next up for the MKR Team and Brandon Knupp is the half-mile high banks of Toledo Speedway in Ohio, with practice for the ARCA RE/MAX Series event on Saturday in preparation for Pork Pole Qualifying on Sunday along with the Hantz Group 200 by Federated Car Care set to roll off at 2:00pm, live on SPEED.
