Allgaier Finishes Second in Berlin after Breaking Track Record
Marne, MI (July 27, 2008)-Justin Allgaier had a banner day Saturday at the Berlin Raceway in the ARCA RE/MAX Series race, finishing second after breaking the track record in SIM Factory Pole Qualifying that afternoon. Allgaier beat the track record set by Fred Campbell in 2003 with a time of 16.963 seconds at a speed of 92.955 mph.
Allgaier led the first 59 laps until having to pit for tires and fuel at the Marne, Michigan short track. He drove the 16 AG Tech-Hoosier Midwest Chevrolet past 8-Time ARCA RE/MAX Series Champion Frank Kimmel late in the race to grab the runner up position on the 7/16-mile race track.
Allgaier earned the Accel Fastest Lap of the Race honors with crew chief Jim Pohlman capturing the Cometic Crew Chief of the Race.
"We just didn't have quite enough," said Allgaier. "Scott (Speed) was on his game there and really good on restarts. Actually, he was good all the way around. The guys did awesome and we did everything we knew how and they just did it a little bit better. All in all a good night and we had a good points night. Anytime you can be disappointed and finish second you've had a good night-believe me.
Our program seems to be coming together. I'm proud of this team for all t he work they put into these cars. Hopefully we will head to Pocono and carry some momentum after these last few weeks of racing."
Allgaier will head to the Pocono Raceway fort the next event fifth in the 2008 ARCA RE/MAX Series Championship Points battle, just 240 points out of the lead held by Ricky Stenhouse.
