MARNE, MI -- Berlin Raceway will welcome the return of the ARCA RE/MAX series on Saturday, July 20, for a 200-lap feature race. The event is presented by Meijer and is dubbed the Pork the Other White Meat 200 at Berlin Raceway.
The Pork the Other White Meat 200 entry list includes some exciting names, including Coopersville's Tim Steele, the 2001 winner of the Pork the Other White Meat 200 at Berlin Raceway, and Berlin Raceway regulars Vern Slagh, Fred Campbell, Billy Shotko and Ray Clay. Other big names include ARCA regulars Jason Jarrett, son of 1999 NASCAR Winston Cup champion Dale Jarrett; part-time Winston Cup driver and defending ARCA RE/MAX Series champion and current points leader Frank Kimmel; and part-time Berlin Raceway driver Chad Blount, last weekend's ARCA winner at Kentucky.
The National Pork Board has been involved in the ARCA RE/MAX series since 1999, initially as a co-sponsor of 2001 series champion Frank Kimmel's car and as an ARCA RE/MAX series sponsor. It is the title sponsor of two races this season - at Atlanta in March and at Berlin Raceway this Saturday. Meijer has joined as the presenting sponsor of the Berlin race and, along with Pork the Other White Meat, will host a retail promotion on Friday, July 19, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Knapp's Corner Meijer on East Beltline. Frank Kimmel's show car will be on site for the event, along with many other activities and events.
ARCA (Automobile Racing Club of America), which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this season, is a touring series known as the most versatile stock car touring series on earth. The stock cars race on all types of tracks and surfaces, from superspeedways such as Daytona to short tracks such as Berlin Raceway to dirt tracks and street and road courses.
Ticket prices for the Pork the Other White Meat 200 are $21 in advance or $22 on the day of the race for general admission and $25 for pit passes. Children ages 3-12 are half price and 2 and under are free. Gates open at 11 a.m. and racing action begins at 6:30 p.m. The race will be televised live on SpeedChannel. Berlin Raceway's MTA Sportsman division will also compete in a points race along with ARCA on July 20.
