AURORA, Ill. (Aug. 13, 2001) -- EA SPORTS Supercross continues to strengthen its position in the world of motor sports television, securing four events to be aired on ABC's "Wide World of Sports" during the 16-race 2002 supercross season.
"Supercross has a terrific, loyal following," said Stephen M. Ferrara, director of programming for ABC Sports. "With exciting young stars like Jeremy McGrath and Ricky Carmichael, we feel supercross is a great compliment to our 'Wide World of Sports' brand."
As promoters of the series, Clear Channel Entertainment - Motor Sports, knows the importance of a strong network presence.
"The growth and success of any sport depends on the development of a strong television package," said Michael Weber, Executive VP of Television and Licensing for CCE/Motor Sports. "With four ABC Sports specials and a 15-event schedule on ESPN2 in 2002, we feel like the EA SPORTS Supercross Series is ready to run shoulder-to-shoulder with any other form of motor sports on television."
The season schedule for ABC Sports, which aired three events in 2001, includes unprecedented coverage of the season opener from Anaheim, Calif., on Jan. 6, as well events from Indianapolis (Feb. 10), Houston (March 24) and Dallas (April 21).
The ESPN2 coverage will be packaged in 125cc and 250cc one-hour programs.
