AURORA, Ill. - Team Chevy Trucks Kawasaki rider Ricky Carmichael clinched his first 250cc championship this weekend during Round 14 of the 2001 EA SPORTS Supercross Series Presented by Speed Stick at Texas Stadium in Irving, and the action translated into a 1.2 overnight television rating (1.2 million viewers, 3 share) on ABC's Wide World of Sports.

The race, the second of three on ABC this year, headlined ABC television's sports line up Sunday. This event's household viewers increased more than 200,000 over the first ABC broadcast just two weeks ago from the Silverdome in Pontiac, Mich.

Seven-time Supercross champion Jeremy McGrath, who rides for Team Mazda Yamaha, had his three-year championship winning streak come to an end as Carmichael, who is the reigning U.S. Open champion, won his 11th-consecutive main event.

Round 15 will be held in Salt Lake City April 28th, and will air Sunday, April 29th on ABC at 3:00 p.m. ET. The EA SPORTS Supercross Series will culminate in Las Vegas May 5th, with Round 16, which will be featured live on Pay-Per-View. Viewers should contact their local satellite for cable provider for more information.
